The Silver IT Fest 2016, a two-day event held at the Lifelong Learning Institute in Eunos, marked its 10th year with a carnival for older Singaporeans to enjoy free IT tutorials and workshops, and games and activities for their families.

The event was part of a joint effort between the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and Lifelong Learning Council (LLC) in order to expand opportunities for the elderly to pick up basic  infocomm technology (IT) skills.

At the event free courses were given to those aged 50 and above on how to use mobile apps, including the use of text messaging applications, surf the Internet, or edit their digital photographs. The courses also ranged from beginner-level ones on how to use a computer, to advanced topics such as how to conduct online transactions. Celebrities and VIPs also graced the event, including Communications and Information Minister Yaacob Ibrahim who was there to officiate new partnerships announcements.

Our Social Print Station (SPS) offered old folks the chance to use social media activation technology for themselves. Hashtagged photos taken on mobile devices were printed from a Social Print Station (SPS) and displayed on our Social Media Wall (SMW). Photos taken, sent  and printed from the Social Media Photo Booth (SMPB) were posted to various social media platforms – allowing them fun and practical use of what they learned.
